The public company analyzed has a fleet of about 70 Busses fuelled by Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). The Natural Gas is supplied to the filling station, based on four compressors, by local low pressure pipe network. The compressors deliver meanly about 3,000,000 Stm3 per year of CNG consuming about 1,300,000 kWh. The amount of km covered each year by the busses is of about 5,000,000 transporting about 12,000,000 of passengers. The adoption of LNG instead of the CNG can lead to a reduction of the fuelling shift, of the electrical energy consumption and of operating and maintenance costs. The specific cost per km and per passenger can be reduced up to 15% even if the CO2 equivalent emissions results slightly increased.
