This article focuses on Arsène Lupin speech in the novel 813 by Maurice Leblanc. Language is an essential component of his multifaced character. As it is a very large subject, we decided to concentrate us in the analysis of the use of tenses in the speech of this famous burglar. Our aim is to verify if he is really master of his language. In order to do so, we first scanned the text using the software Cordial 2012 Pro. After we examined Lupin and his alias use of tenses. The results of our study showed that the distribution of tenses changes depending on the character (Lupin or his alias) and on the different parts of the novel (dialogues, interior monologues). Furthermore, Lupin uses a wide range of tenses. His style is both oral and descriptive reflecting a cultivated character able to adapt himself to his interlocutors.
