The total X-ray and neutron diffraction patterns from aqueous sulphuric acid solutions of different concentrations are presented. They are related to an average of all pair correlation functions for the system. Although such complicated quantities are difficult to interpret in terms of local order, by combining neutron and X-ray diffraction it is possible to isolate particular structural features. Following a procedure already employed in a previous study we use both techniques to identify local coordination of both heavy and light atoms. We find that tetrahedral coordination of the SO4 groups is maintained in the liquid state, for all the molar composition analysed, and the bond lengths are in good agreement with those of solid sulphuric acid. In addition we found that the experimental O-D coordination numbers are higher than the calculated ones with increasing sulphuric acid concentration.
