From polarized neutron diffraction measurements of the magnetization density in MnNi3.5 single crystal as a function of the state of order, the average number of Mn atoms having antiferromagnetic coupling with respect to the matrix magnetization has been determined. It is found that the probability of this negative magnetic moment state of Mn is roughly described by a random model which assumes the appearance of this state when there are at least two other Mn atoms first nearest neighbours.

Abstract

From polarized neutron diffraction measurements of the magnetization density in MnNi3.5 single crystal as a function of the state of order, the average number of Mn atoms having antiferromagnetic coupling with respect to the matrix magnetization has been determined. It is found that the probability of this negative magnetic moment state of Mn is roughly described by a random model which assumes the appearance of this state when there are at least two other Mn atoms first nearest neighbours.
