Some independent lines of evidence drawn from an analysis of Alpine metamorphisms and magmatism indicate that subduction was active during the Upper Eocene, along a new subduction plane located beneath the Tau ern Window. These lines of evidence are based on the timing and location of the Tauern metamorphism and the geochemical features (REE included) of the Vedrette di Ries (Rieserferner) tonalites.
