The authors present the results of an experiment in which the dispersion relations and phonon linewidths have been determined for the alloy Ni0.89Cr0.11. In this alloy the mass disorder is expected to produce negligible effects, whereas the disorder caused by force constants is expected to give some broadening of the phonon peaks. The results of a coherent potential approximation (CPA) calculation for a model containing both types of disorder in this alloy are also given. The experiment shows appreciable broadening which is somewhat larger than the calculated one.
