The aim of this work was to evaluate the metabolic profile in pregnant and non-pregnant ewe-lambs, maintained in the same growing conditions, to observe nutritional-metabolic modifications caused exclusively by the physiological status. Twelve Comisana ewe-lambs (5 pregnant and 7 non-pregnant), raised in individual pens, were fed diets of first cut alfalfa hay, ad libitum, and barley grain (300g/head/d). Dry matter intake per head per day and its components were recorded. Starting at about 30 days before the presumed lambing date, weekly blood samples were taken to determine the main haematochemical parameters. Dry matter intake, greater in the pregnant ewe-lambs, was not significantly different between the two groups, when evaluated on live weight (LW) and LW0.75. Regarding the haematochemical parameters in the pregnant ewe-lambs, NEFA, cholesterol, phospholipids and b-hydroxybutyrate were significantly higher while glucose was significantly lower.
