The coherent-potential approximation (CPA) has been employed to calculate the electronic density of states in both the ferromagnetic and the paramagnetic phases of nickel-copper alloys. The calculation takes into account in an approximate way the first nearest-neighbour exchange interaction, which is important in these alloys, the copper being nonmagnetic. The general satisfactory agreement with the available experimental data supports CPA as a good approach to the alloy problem.

Abstract

The coherent-potential approximation (CPA) has been employed to calculate the electronic density of states in both the ferromagnetic and the paramagnetic phases of nickel-copper alloys. The calculation takes into account in an approximate way the first nearest-neighbour exchange interaction, which is important in these alloys, the copper being nonmagnetic. The general satisfactory agreement with the available experimental data supports CPA as a good approach to the alloy problem.
