Some aspects of the morphology, epidemiology and pathogenesis of Sclerotium bataticola Taub. were examined. It was observed that the pathogenic attacks, already diffuse in all areas of oil seed production, begin at flowering time. The most susceptible hybrids are the first to be infected no matter what their growth stage. In the most advanced stage, of infection, tha parasite is localized in the xylem vessels. Mycelial masses or sclerotia occlude the vessels. Laboratory tests have shown that some fungi and bacteria (Bacillus subtilis Cohen emend. Prazmowski and B.cereus Frank. et Frank.) show a strong antagonistic activity against the pathogen.
