EnglishThe targets focused by EU in compliance with the Kyoto Protocol need an increase of the renewable energies employ. In this context biomasses have an important role. The Italian Ministry of Environment funded in 2003 the Italian Biomass Research Center to coordinate the activities dealing with biomass production and energetic conversion and to promote the development of the bioenergy sector. The Center is situated in Perugia and aims to accomplish the objectives of the still existing Programs and to realize new activities dealing with: research and experimentation, training and services (National Biomass Observatory, Product and Process Certification, Advice Activity, Legislation Support, etc.). The actions cover three prduction and conversion chains (dedicated crops, residual biomasses, agroindustry and zootechny residues) and analyse four aspects: production, transformation, energetic conversion and polluting emissions.
