Three plant activators, salicylic acid (SA), DL-b-amino-n-butyric acid (BABA) and benzo-(1,2,3)-thiadiazole-7-carbothioic acid S methyl ester (BTH) were tested to evaluate the production of PR proteins in the host-parasite combination sunflower-Plasmopara helianthi. At least eight proteins, two of them PR1 (17kD) and PR5 (24kD) serologically linked to the tobacco PR proteins were induced by SA and BTH in sunflower leaf discs. These proteins are induced by both activators in one and four days after the onset of the treatment. Also the treatment with BTH as a soil drench, with and without P.helianthi, induces the production of the protein serologically linked to the tobacco PR5 protein. No proteins, induced by BABA treatments of leaf discs as well as soil drench, were detected with the analytical methods used.
