Preliminary results are presented from the γ-ray/optical campaign of January - February 1999 on OVV quasar 3C 279. During this period we obtained good optical sampling of the source, probably the best ever for a bright OVV quasar over a period of several weeks. Its large and fast variations have been compared with the γ-ray fluxes obtained simultaneously by the EGRET instrument, on the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory (CGRO). Despite rather poor counting statistics in the γ-ray data, a fair correlation is found, with the γ variations following those in the optical by 3-4 days.

Abstract
Preliminary results are presented from the γ-ray/optical campaign of January - February 1999 on OVV quasar 3C 279. During this period we obtained good optical sampling of the source, probably the best ever for a bright OVV quasar over a period of several weeks. Its large and fast variations have been compared with the γ-ray fluxes obtained simultaneously by the EGRET instrument, on the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory (CGRO). Despite rather poor counting statistics in the γ-ray data, a fair correlation is found, with the γ variations following those in the optical by 3-4 days.File in questo prodotto:
