The article deals with the subject of research in the field of special education. By taking into account the difficulties in determining and controlling the numerous variables that come into play in this specific area of interest, the suggestion is to identify some quality criteria for the research, steered in an inclusive perspective, that would be useful in directing the scientific debate towards the not anymore postponed need of using an evidence-based approach. This approach can build reliable and transferable systems of knowledge orienting the research in this field, considering and valuing not only the more traditional studies on groups, but other methodologies as well, included qualitative or mixed methods, when requested by the specific research questions.

Il contributo affronta il tema della ricerca nel campo della pedagogia e didattica speciale. Considerando le difficoltà di definire e controllare le numerose variabili che entrano in gioco in questo specifico ambito, la proposta è di individuare alcuni criteri di qualità della ricerca orientata in prospettiva inclusiva, utili ad indirizzare il dibattito scientifico verso la necessità, non più procrastinabile, di avvalersi di un approccio evidence-based. Tale approccio consente di costruire sistemi di conoscenze affidabili e trasferibili, in grado di orientare la ricerca in questo campo, considerando e valorizzando non soltanto indagini classiche sui gruppi, ma anche altre metodologie, comprese quelle di tipo qualitativo o misto, nel momento in cui le specifiche domande della ricerca lo richiedano.
