The aim of this contribution is to put in connection the interpretation of the “dream of Chuang Tzu” given by Borges and the Schopenhauerian metaphysics. To do that it will be explained for first the metaphysics dimension of dreams in its connection with time, developed by Schopenhauer in his masterpiece The World as Will and Representation, intended as a deconstruction of western concept of knowledge. Then it will be exposed the Borges’ confutation of time in his essay New Refutation of Time, in which the Argentine writer analyses explicitly the “dream of Chuang Tzu” by putting it in relationship with the philosophy of Berkeley and Schopenhauer. In the end will emerged how eternity in different ways accomplishes the research of truth as a bridge between cultures.
