The paper proposes an iconographic and literary re-examination of the myth of Marsyas. On the one hand, it attempts to highlight its fundamental characteristics, especially regarding the figure of the satyr as a hybrid being predisposed to metamorphosis. On the other hand, it attempts to shed light on the specific features of this character in Proto-Italic vascular production, which are fundamental to the redefinition of the Roman Marsyas.
