This paper intends to consider the Arendtian notion of the two-in-one, to study its genesis from a historical-philosophical perspective, through some fundamental writings of the first half of the 1950s: Socrates, Ideology and Terror and several note of the Denktagebuch. The essay illustrates the unity of Arendt’s path (also referring to the posthumous The Life of the Mind) and presents the idea of a humanism that attempts to decline identity and difference together (with reference to the connections between two-in-one, plurality, infra and solitude).

Abstract

This paper intends to consider the Arendtian notion of the two-in-one, to study its genesis from a historical-philosophical perspective, through some fundamental writings of the first half of the 1950s: Socrates, Ideology and Terror and several note of the Denktagebuch. The essay illustrates the unity of Arendt’s path (also referring to the posthumous The Life of the Mind) and presents the idea of a humanism that attempts to decline identity and difference together (with reference to the connections between two-in-one, plurality, infra and solitude).
