In Tunisia, the cultivation of olive (Olea europaea L.) with mono-varietal implantation is widespread, however, very few information are available about the reproductive biology of the used cultivars. Therefore, it is appropriate to have a better understanding of the typical varietal behavior. In this context the research program between the Institut de l’Olivier in Tunis and the Department of Applied Biology in the University of Perugia is introduced. The study has considered the three major Tunisian olive cultivars (olive oil cultivar: Chemlali and Chetoui, Table olive cultivar: Meski) with a clear genetic origin, of the same age and in good plant health. It were carried out morphological surveys, viability and in vitro germination tests. The results obtained in the two years of investigation, showed that the cultivars have different morphological behaviors both among themselves and within the two years. The results of the viability and germination tests showed different values between the cultivars with the “olive table cultivar” that showed the lowest values than the other two, the germination test confirmed the same behavior trend between the different cultivars.
