Emotional intelligence is a fundamental construct for individuals’ growth and their potentials’ development. Several studies have examined the relationship between giftedness, talent development and emotional intelligence – the latter often criticized in the field of gifted education when compared to psychometric intelligence. The aim of this article is to discuss the educational opportunities provided by the framework of emotional intelligence for the development of socio-emotional potential of the gifted by analyzing the relationship between giftedness and emotional intelligence identified in some theoretical models of giftedness.
