A certain number of cases of lipomatous muscular dystrophy in cattle of various breeds (Chianina, Marchigiana and Holstein-Fresian) are reported. Some of them were sporadic and were occasionally detected at a cutting plant or butchery, while other cases were observed in young Chianina bulls belonging to the same herd. The epidemiological data and the preliminary investigation on the parental elationships suggest the hypotesis that genetic factors are involved in this pathology.
