Possible differences between carcass and meat quality of Chianina beef cattle reared either organically (25 animals) or in accordance with the PGI " Vitellone Bianco dell'Appennino Centrale" production regulation (25 animals) were evaluated The PGI-marked animals had ahigher live weight at slaughter as well as a higher hot carcass weight and dressing percentage compared to the animals reared in accordance with the organic system, while no major differences were found between the groups as far as meat quality was concerned. For commercial reasons, the ageing period was not exactly the same for the two groups and this has to be taken into consideration. Chianina beef cattle meat quality, however, appears good whatever the rearing system adopted.
